Configure WhatsApp payment settings

Take payment inside the conversation where that is available to you, rather than sending people to a link and hoping they come back.

Where WhatsApp payments are available to you, they remove the worst drop-off point in a chat sale: the moment you send a link and the customer leaves the conversation to open a browser.

Two things are outside Convarza's control and both should be settled first. Availability is set by WhatsApp and varies by market, and eligibility is decided by them and your payment provider. Confirm you actually have it before designing a process around it.

Before you start

  • A connected WhatsApp channel.
  • Payment capability enabled for your business by WhatsApp in your market.
  • Your payment provider details.
  • Agreement on who is allowed to request money.

Steps

Check availability in your market first

WhatsApp payments are not available everywhere. Confirm before you build a sales process that assumes them.

Open payment settings on the WhatsApp channel

Part of the WhatsApp-only card, with templates, flows, canned messages and the QR block. Admin-only, like every credential in the product.

Connect your payment details

Enter them once, on the channel. Admin-only, like every credential in the product.

Check the details against what your payment provider shows rather than what somebody wrote down. A payment configuration that is subtly wrong fails at the worst possible moment — mid-sale, in front of a customer.

Decide who may request payment, and write it down

Agree this before you launch rather than after. A payment request sent by mistake is considerably harder to unwind than a wrong message, and the customer experience of receiving one is bad.

Test with a small real amount

Then check the transaction appears where you expect on the contact's activity feed, and reconcile it against your payment provider.

Check it worked

Run one real transaction end to end and follow it all the way to settlement. Payments are the one area where a partly working setup is worse than none at all.

Worth knowing

The parts people get wrong

  • Availability, limits and settlement are governed by WhatsApp and your payment provider. Convarza surfaces the settings; it does not change their rules.
  • Refunds and disputes are handled with your payment provider, not here.
