Connect a Facebook Page

One sign-in connects the page. Everything a customer sends it arrives in the shared inbox with the contact record beside it, replacing the Pages app for messages.

Facebook Messenger is the simplest of the Meta channels to connect: one sign-in and a page choice. For messages, it replaces the Pages app entirely — everything a customer sends the page arrives in the same queue as WhatsApp, email and your web widget, with the contact record beside it.

Name and type on the channel. Name it for the page it serves, because the list is what you will read later.

Before you start

  • A Facebook Page.
  • An account with admin rights on that Page.

Steps

Add a Facebook channel and log in

SSO only — no credential fields, for the same reason as Instagram: Meta does not issue a token a business can type in for this.

Use an account whose Page role is unlikely to change. The channel's access is that person's access, and it ends when theirs does.

Choose the correct page

If you administer several, choose carefully. Messages only arrive for the page you authorise, and connecting the wrong one produces a channel that works perfectly and receives nothing.

Choose what answers

A bot, or your agents. Page messages skew towards short, repetitive questions — opening hours, do you deliver, is this in stock — which makes them a good fit for a deflection bot.

Whatever you choose, choose something. An unrouted channel collects conversations that agents cannot see.

Consider auto-close

Page messages skew towards short one-off questions. Auto-close ends quiet conversations after a period of silence, which keeps your open and unreplied counts meaningful instead of drowning them in threads nobody needed to continue.

Message the page and confirm it lands

It arrives in the same list as every other channel, with a Facebook chip on the row. Reassignment works exactly as it does elsewhere: managers and admins can move it, agents can only unassign themselves.

Check it worked

Send a message from an account that is not a page admin — admin accounts sometimes behave differently. Confirm it appears in the Inbox and that a reply reaches the sender.

Worth knowing

The parts people get wrong

  • Agents see only what is assigned to them, so page traffic handled by a bot is invisible to them until somebody assigns it. That is correct, not a permissions bug.
  • Losing the Page role on the authorising account disconnects the channel. Check this when somebody changes job.
